Thrifty Thursday

I had a wonderful day op shopping on Tuesday - I had a few jobs to do in town, so decided to pop into some of my fave shops.

I've never brought DVD from op shops before - but I thought I would risk it for $1 each

Christmas decorations $2 each - for some crafting

How cool are these Christmas ice cream sandwhich moulds for $2?!?  I know its not something I needed, but was too cool to pass up LOL  Another ceramic pie bird - $1 and Tupperware measuring cups $2.  My mum has a set of these cups and I knew I wanted my own set :)

Fabric 50c, zipper 10c and soft toy eyes 50c.

A full set of sweet alphabet stickers $2.

Granny Square Baby Blankets

A few years ago my mum brought a shopping bag of complete granny squares at a garage sale (for $3 I think).  I put them in the cupboard for a future project and that's where they stayed.  When I found out that my friend Katie was having a baby girl I knew it was time to get them out and stitch them into a blanket.  Once I started laying the squares out I realised that there were enough squares to make both a pram blanket and a cot sized blanket.

I stitched the squares together and added a scalloped border around the pram blanket and just a plain border around the cot blanket.

It was great to finally use the squares (and a lot faster than crocheting them) and I love how they turned out.  I'm hoping to see Katie and the new baby Olivia next weekend - I hope she likes them too :)

Everyday Moments

It's still all quiet around here lately :)

I spent a lovely morning catching up with some old friends from work and making new friends to work on crochet projects.  The FB group is called Tea, Tarts & Hookers (cheeky name LOL)  and they meet a few times every month to work on individual crochet projects.  They usually meet up every 2nd Friday, but a few members couldn't make it due to work, so they offered to have a monthly Saturday catch up.  I was excited to catch up with my friend Jeanie and finally meet her cute little baby Hudson.  I spent more time having baby snuggtles instead of crocheting though LOL

Craig's mum and I went to see "Jersey Boys" at the movies - it was wonderful!!  It was so much better than what we expected - we were singing along and laughing the whole movie :)  Definately recommend it!

I spotted this gorgeous beetle when I was hosing off the front verandah - I couldn't seem to catch the amazing iridescent sheen it had.

I found this bearded dragon sunning himself in the back yard - I love the wildlife (birds, lizards, etc) we have around here.

I stocked up on some coloured twine from the dollar shop.

A new bracelet - love it :)

Meeting Stephanie

Last year I signed up for a pen pal swap and was matched with Stephanie in The Netherlands.  We have been exchanging letters regularly and this year she told me that they (Stephanie and her hubby Pieter) were travelling to Australia!  After working out their itinerary we agreed to meet up in Hervey Bay (that was as far north as they were travelling).  On the weekend Stephanie told me that Pieter wanted to do a tour at the Rum factory, so decided to travel to Bundaberg yesterday- woo hoo!  We agreed to meet at a local cafe for coffee.  After meeting and chatting for a few hours, Stephanie and Pieter came back to see our new house and meet Craig :)  We talked about anything and everything - it was so lovely to connect with Stephanie in person as it was in writing.  We talked about where they had travelled, things they seen / done,  what Aussie foods they had tried (I got Stephanie to taste Milo and tried to explain the "milo cough" bahaaha), their home town and life in The Netherlands, etc.  Stephanie told me that she got to meet 5 of her penpals while travelling- how exciting :)

Thrifty Thursday

I managed to pop into one op shop after work last week.  Luckily I managed to find some lovely goodies :)

White daisy Pyrex (?) casserole dish - $2.  This pattern matches the butter dish I found a few weeks ago.

Patchwork book 50c - lots of great blocks and easy to follow instructions.  Looks like I will be using more of my fabric stash ;)  Zippers 10c each.

Bag of stuffing $1.50 - will share this with a friend who has been crocheting lots of cute owl toys lately :)

Blue Zippered Pouches

Another 2 pouches made this week :)  This time using some fat quarters I had been hoarding for too long and lovely blue and yellow zippers I brought from the op shops.  I've played around a bit with the pattern / design and have stitched around the zippers to give a more finished / professional look.

I love the gorgeous pop of yellow for the lining :)

I'm going to add these to my pile and use for small Christmas gifts.

Card

When I was making Cathie's birthday card I wanted it to have bling  - think this meets my idea :)  The stars / bead decoration were fiddly, but so worth the effort in the end!  After I finished adding the die cut I realised that I didn't leave enough room for a glittery 40 - oops!  Oh well, at least Cathie like it :)
