Owl Beanie

Cathie & Andrew gifted us a newborn photo shoot for Clay, which we did few weeks ago (should be getting photos soon!!).  The photographer asked if we wanted to bring some image ideas and any props along.  I have made a few cute owl beanies previously for friend's and I knew I had to have a photo of Clay wearing one too, so I was motivated to finally get the hooks & wool out and crochet one for him.  I used this pattern from Repeat Crafter Me.  This is my "go to" blog for (free) crochet patterns - they are easy to follow, have good pictures / instructions and a variety of sizes and on trend items.  This beanie only took a few hours (over 2 nights) to complete - I will also be making a few more for friends who recently had babies.

My First Mother's Day

Today I celebrated an event that I never dreamed would happen - my first Mother's Day :)  I was so excited to see a card with "mummy" written on it!  Craig & Clay spoilt me with a gorgeous Mum locket and yummy chocolates.

We took our mum's out for a delicious Chinese lunch, where we gave them their gifts and got to take some family photos.

A relaxing afternoon at home and then Craig cooked my favourite meal (creamy seeded mustard chicken on focaccia).for dinner.

Everyday Moments

As usual, just sharing some pics of everyday moments lately - just those random photos that don't really need a whole blog post of their own, but something I still want to share.

While we were in Brisbane, Mum and I caught a bus to Chermside shopping centre (serious shopping heaven!!) and I got to visit Daiso again!

The newborn & baby boy bounty bags - got to love freebies :)

Kylie spoilt me with this gorgeous necklace to celebrate Clay's birth.  It is so beautiful - it made my cry (damn baby hormones LOL)

I have brought all the wool for a cot sized ripple blanket - now to decide the colour order and find the time to start it :)

Breakfast and catch up with the girls this morning.  First time leaving Clay (a little nervous about that LOL), but wonderful to spend some time just enjoying the company of two amazing women xo  I usually order a savoury dish, but Kylie was having brioche again and I thought I would try it - yummy!

Thrifty Thursday

It's been a long since I've been op shopping, but my mum and MIL have found a few goodies for me and last week I managed to pop into an op shop after I had an appointment at the hospital for Clay.

Diane found me this gorgeous babushka biscuit jar $5

The boat shelves (perfect for Clay's nautical theme nursery) were $3.50 & $2.50 each

Trolley seat cover $1.50

Mum went to a garage sale and got me the pop up book & scrapbook kits $5 for both

Multi photo frame $2

I found the romper and cute flannelette bunny rug $1 each

Lactation (Boobie) Biscuits

I wanted to increase / keep up my breast milk supply, so decided to try lactation biscuits (another option was a light beer after dinner, but I'm not a huge beer fan).  I remembered seeing a recipe on  She Sows Seeds blog and thought I would try it.   The original recipe has dried cranberries, but I left them out.  I brought my brewer's yeast & linseed meal from the local health food shop.  These are really yummy - even Craig has been snacking on them - and I have made 2 batches so far.

Ingredients
240g butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup caster sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 tablespoons linseed meal
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons brewers yeast
1 teaspoon bicarb soda
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup choc chips

Method
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, brewers yeast, bicarb soda and oats. Cream the butter and sugars together on a medium speed, add in the eggs, vanilla and linseed meal, mixing to combine.

Add in the dry ingredients half a cup at a time, mixing on medium speed after each addition. Stir through the choc chips.

Roll the mixture into tablespoon sized balls and bake on a baking tray for 10 minutes at 180 degrees Celcius. The biscuits should be soft to the touch, but will harden as they cool.

Clay @ 1 Month

Weight - 4110g
Length - 53cm

I can't believe our little man is one month already!!  Life has definately changed for us, but we are loving every minute of it :)  We are so lucky that he is such a happy and placid baby - he really only cries when he's hungry or needs a nappy change.  We joke he is our little alarm clock, because he is on a (approx) 3 hour feeding schedule.

Rolled from his front to back @ 2 weeks which we thought was a fluke, until a week later when we put him on a blanket to do some tummy time and he did it again 3x in a row!

HATES tummy time - rolls immediately onto his back everytime we put him on his stomach.

Is a total water baby - loves to have baths.  Sometimes when he is really unsettled we pop him in a bath and he calms down immediately.

Still holds his head up and is able to keep it steady (less jelly neck).
