First stop was Old Melbourne Gaol. We wandered through the gaol looking at the displays in each cell (the death masks were a bit creepy!) and the gallows.
Part of the gaol ticket included "The Watch House" experience, where we went next door to the old watch house and a guard took you through the process of being booked (we were even locked in a cell). We got to check out the various cell types and exercise yards.
From the watch house we wandered down to Chinatown and walked along the street looking at various shops, displays and restaurants. We had lunch at The Golden Orchid (recommended by friends) - very delicious :) After lunch we went to the Chinese Museum. The display about the Chinese people's role in the gold rush was interesting and all the dragons were intricate and stunning!
Then it was time to catch the tram, train, then bus home to rest our tired legs ready for the next day's adventures!
