Day 6 - Tauranga

We were lucky enough to dock nearly an hour early and find our hire car waiting at the port for us - we headed off to Rotorua just as the sun was starting to come up. We smelt Rotorua (sulphur - rotten egg smell) before we saw it! LOL We went to the Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland. We got to do the first walk around the craters, hot & cold pools and natural formations - it was absolutely amazing!! I would say that this was my favourite part of our trip!

We were on a schedule, so hopped in the car and drove to the Lady Knox Geyser which erupts at 10.15am daily. I wondered how they knew that, but after a talk by the ranger he explained they put a soap powder chemical in there!

Back to the park to do the 2nd walk around more craters and pools.

After our walk, we headed back into Rotorua and stopped at some mud pools. It's pretty amazing to hear and see the boiling mud!

We had lunch by the lake and a look around the town, the went for a bit of a bush walk to look around the Okere Falls.

Back to port to drop off our hire car and hop back on the boat. Mum and I watched "True Grit" in the Show Lounge - it's a pretty good movie. We had an early dinner so we could head up to the Lido Deck for the Island Night party :)
